SUMMARY:P. Mich. inv. 1027. An Alexandrian quarrel at a time of crisis
DESCRIPTION:P. Mich. inv. 1027 is an unpublished fragment from a Greek peti
tion of the reign of (Aurelian and) Vaballath (ca. 270-272 CE). The plaint
ive\, himself a likely member of the Alexandrian elite\, complains about s
omething that happened within a religious institution. Several members of
the administration dealt with the petition\, from the high-priest of Egypt
down to someone who is a member of the Museum. Behind its palaeographical
interest\, the papyrus is therefore an important witness of what happened
to some major Alexandrian institutions at a time of crisis.
