SUMMARY:The New Perspectives Offered by the Digital Turn to Classical Studi
es\, a Case Study with the Herculaneum Papyri
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we will provide a brief overview of the funda
mental changes the digital turn has brought to the field of Classics\, par
ticularly in terms of knowledge production and interdisciplinarity. We wil
l then look closer at the impacts of these changes on papyrology\, the spe
cialized field devoted to the study of ancient texts written on papyri. La
st\, we will see how a cutting-edge interdisciplinary collaboration betwee
n physicists\, computer scientists\, and papyrologists achieved what was h
itherto thought impossible: reading a carbonized scroll from Herculanum wi
 thout opening it.
