P. Mich. inv. 1027. An Alexandrian quarrel at a time of crisis
P. Mich. inv. 1027 is an unpublished fragment from a Greek petition of the reign of (Aurelian and) Vaballath (ca. 270-272 CE). The plaintive, himself a likely member of the Alexandrian elite, complains about something that happened within a religious institution. Several members of the administration dealt with the petition, from the high-priest of Egypt down to someone who is a member of the Museum. Behind its palaeographical interest, the papyrus is therefore an important witness of what happened to some major Alexandrian institutions at a time of crisis.
