Intersectionality in Ancient and Pre-Modern Contexts. Considering Aspects of Privilege and Marginalisation

International Conference with Claudia Wilopo (University Basel) and Jovita dos Santos Pinto (University Luzern) as Keynote-Speakers

While intersectional approaches are well established in the social sciences, their application to ancient and pre-modern contexts remains mostly unexplored. Questions of identity and the marginalisation of specific groups are gaining increasing importance in ancient and pre-modern studies as well. The conference aims to bring together scholars who apply concepts of intersectionality to ancient and pre-modern contexts or wish to explore its potential within these often fragmentary and elite-focused sources.

Further information and the complete call for papers can be found below (the deadline for submitting presentations is September 1, 2025).
