This talk will present ongoing findings from the Seascapes project (AHRC-DFG, University of Bristol and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz), offering a refined chronological and cultural assessment of the Bell Beaker phenomenon in the western Mediterranean based on more than 120 new radiocarbon dates integrated with legacy datasets. Using Bayesian modelling of key coastal and insular sites, this study clarifies the timing and possible pathways of Bell Beaker adoption and the wider connectivity networks that shaped third millennium BCE communities. The project also pioneers compound specific radiocarbon dating (CSRA) of decorated Bell Beaker vessels, bringing together organic residue and chronological evidence that provide new perspectives on subsistence practices in these maritime contexts. Together, these findings provide a more precise and comprehensive understanding of how Mediterranean groups engaged with and transformed the Bell Beaker complex.
