Egyptology
In the subject area of Egyptology at the University of Basel, students and researchers deal with the rich material and textual legacy of ancient Egypt: archaeology, ancient Egyptian languages, religion, history, architecture and objects are studied with the help of current theories and methods. International networking, interdisciplinary exchange and the use of digital technologies form an essential part of both studies and research.
In addition to the education in lectures and seminars, we offer regular excursions in Germany and abroad. Furthermore, there is the possibility of excavation participation in Basel archaeological projects or in the context of cooperations, as well as internships in various institutions.
The Basel profile is characterized by many years of research activity in the Theban Necropolis, especially in the Valley of the Kings, as well as by research projects in the fields of religious, linguistic, cultural and visual studies.
