Projects in the Valley of the Kings
For quite some time, one of the research foci of the Egyptology subject area of the University of Basel has been the Valley of the Kings.
- Under the then director, Prof. Dr. Erik Hornung, the royal underworld texts were collated, annotated, and edited; in addition, several studies on the associated religious ideas were produced.
- From 1998 to 2008 an archaeological project was dedicated to the three tombs KV 18 (Ramses X.), KV 47 (Siptah) and KV 32 (Tiaa) and their surroundings: the project "MISR: Mission Siptah - Ramses X. ".
- Since 2009 a follow-up project is in progress which is dedicated to undecorated tombs in the vicinity of the tomb of Thutmosis III. (KV 34): University of Basel Kings' Valley Project
