Interdisciplinary exhibition "Ich Mann. Du Frau. Feste Rollen seit Urzeiten?" 21.09.2019–29.03.2020
The exhibition follows the one from 2014. It was created as part of a cooperation between the Archaeological Museum Colombischlössle in Freiburg i.Br. and the Department of Prehistory and Early History and Provincial Roman Archaeology.
The exhibition
In the exhibition Ich Mann. Du Frau. poses the question of whether there were hunter-gatherers alongside prehistoric hunters and gatherers, whether women painted cave walls, and whether queens ruled in the Early Iron Age. And today? Why do girls like pink so much? Why does Migros offer gender-specific soups for children? Why is the women's strike a necessity?
These seemingly trivial questions are answered by the exhibition Ich Mann. Du Frau., by questioning our notion of the past and moving away from a male-centered view. In light of archaeological facts, we see a great diversity of role and social models that must have existed in the millennia of prehistory, and are challenged to think more carefully about our society today.
Guest artists Magali Dougoud, Anna Marcus, Alizé Rose-May Monod and Anne-Valérie Zuber present their views on the construction of the historical narrative and on the definition of gender through their video and sculptural installations.
