P.Mich. inv. 1027. An Alexandrian quarrel at a time of crisis

Vortrag von Paul Heilporn (Strassburg) im Rahmen des Kolloquiums «Zur neueren Forschung in der Alten Geschichte» im FS 2022.

P. Mich. inv. 1027 is an unpublished fragment from a Greek petition of the reign of (Aurelian and) Vaballath (ca. 270-272 CE). The plaintive, himself a likely member of the Alexandrian elite, complains about something that happened within a religious institution. Several members of the administration dealt with the petition, from the high-priest of Egypt down to someone who is a member of the Museum. Behind its palaeographical interest, the papyrus is therefore an important witness of what happened to some major Alexandrian institutions at a time of crisis.
