The Department of Ancient Civilizations
The Department of Ancient Civilizations belongs to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It combines the subject areas of Egyptology, Ancient History, Greek Philology, Historical-Comparative Linguistics, Classical Archaeology, Latin Philology, Prehistoric and Early Historic and Provincial Roman Archaeology as well as the Vindonissa Professorship in one building.
This set-up enables interdisciplinary research and teaching. Scholars can develop entirely new perspectives as a result of this concept.
The Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel offers ideal conditions: close proximity, an optimal infrastructure, a shared library, shared committees, and shared administration.
