The 2022 excursion of the Fachbereich Ägyptologie took place in the Netherlands and Belgium (Leiden Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Brussels Royal Museums of Art and History, and Musée Royal de Mariemont). The focus of the visits was to explore the epistemological stakes in the relationship of the scientist with the object that he studies (in terms of physical distance, already existing documentation, known/unknown provenance, etc.). We paid much attention to the curatorial decisions concerning the display of the objects, questioning how museological context and display confer a certain status to the object, often in strong contrast with the latter's original context of presentation/visibility and its functionality.
