The contributions of the series published by Walter de Gruyter (Berlin/Boston) deal mainly with topics on antiquity in the fields of literature, visual studies, media studies, theater studies, religious studies, and cultural studies. Special emphasis is placed on classical philology and classical studies of antiquity, with particular emphasis on the application of modern theories, e.g., in the fields of anthropology, performativity, and narrativity; on interdisciplinary comparison; on the mythic-ritual and iconic poetics of texts and pictorial representations; and on the reception of ancient materials in this context.
