Multi-discplinary studies on the human-animal relationship in Deir el-Medina and the wider Theban area during the New Kingdom (working title)
The PhD research I am undertaking comprises a multi-disciplinary study combining data through archaeozoology, historical anthropology, and the emerging field of human-animal studies within the cultural context of pharaonic Egypt. By adopting these multi-disciplinary approaches, more light will be brought to the complex and diverse nature of the human-animal relationship as they existed in ancient Egypt over 3000 years ago. The research will combine data gathered from an extensive study of texts, iconographic sources, and animal remains from the workmen’s village of Deir el-Medina and its surrounding sites.
